In September 2022, the Victorian Government’s Gender Equality Advisory Committee (GEAC) hosted the Advancing Women’s Leadership Summit to explore strategies to achieve gender equality in local government.

The GEAC provides advice to the Minister for Local Government and the Minister for Women on strategies to achieve the Government’s target of 50 percent female mayors and councillors by 2025, and is co-chaired by Kat Theophanous MP and Juliana Addison MP (both alum of the Pathways to Politics Program for Women).

Former Prime Minister The Hon Julia Gillard AC delivered the keynote speech for the event.
