A tribute to Dr Katie Allen, former Federal Member for Higgins, Pathways to Politics alum and Member of our Victorian Advisory Committee
We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Katie Allen.
Katie has been profoundly important to Pathways to Politics for Women, and to so many women across Australia who found confidence and conviction to pursue political leadership because of her example.
We have always been in awe of Katie’s tenacity, courage and dedication to what mattered most to her – especially her commitment to empowering women to step forward and lead.
After completing our Victorian program in 2017, Katie went on to become Pathways to Politics’ first alum elected to Federal Parliament, serving as the Federal Member for Higgins from 2019 to 2022.
Katie was deeply committed to giving back, serving on our multi-partisan Victorian Advisory Committee for many years. She offered thoughtful, strategic and practical advice that helped strengthen and shape the program for women from all backgrounds. She was a mentor to many Pathways to Politics alums and contributed regularly to workshops and panels – including joining us on the very first day of this year’s Victorian program.
Katie was extraordinarily generous to work with, bringing a remarkable energy, dynamism and a collaborative spirit to every conversation.
Just a few months ago, Katie initiated a very special visit to Parliament House in Canberra, co-hosted with Senator Jane Hume, for Liberal Pathways to Politics alums from across the country. That visit offered rare access and insight into the workings of parliament, and went on to inspire similar opportunities for alums across the political spectrum.
Katie’s generosity, leadership and belief in women will continue to shape Pathways to Politics and the many lives she touched.
Our love and deepest condolences go to her husband Malcolm, their four children, and all who loved her. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
