NSW recently hosted the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference, bringing together representatives from across the Commonwealth to discuss global parliamentary and political issues.

As part of the event, the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Network held a panel focused on Promoting the Political Participation of Young Women and Girls. NSW Pathways to Politics Director, Professor Rosalind Dixon, joined the discussion to share valuable insights from the national Pathways to Politics program.

Rosalind emphasised the importance of engaging women (both cis and trans) and girls throughout all stages of life – in episodic as well as extended ways, such as via the Pathways to Politics program. Rosalind received feedback from delegates from the UK, Canada and South Africa on the value of these insights, highlighting the value of the support offered by Pathways to Politics. They also recognised the importance of continued support for alums and women in office, pointing to programs like Transforming Parliament.

Rosalind was also joined on the panel by Ms Ume Kalsoom, Member of the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan, Ms Catherine Fife, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and Hon. Mrs. Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. The panel was chaired by CWP Chairperson, Hon. Dr Zainab Gimba MP, Member of the National Assembly of Nigeria.

Rosalind was joined at the conference by two members of the Pathways to Politics community: the Hon Liesl Tesch MP, member of the NSW Pathways to Politics advisory board and Member for Gosford, and Ms Juliana Addison MP, alum of the Victorian program and Member for Wendouree.
