“One of the lessons I took from politics is to not let others define who you are and what you can achieve.”

– The Hon Julie Bishop

Produced by the New Zealand High Commission in Australia with the support of the Australian National University, MANA WĀHINE was a high profile panel discussion celebrating women in leadership across politics, the arts, sport, and beyond, showcasing women who are breaking barriers and helping level the playing field for future generations.

Moderated by award-winning Australian journalist Laura Tingle, the panel featured four remarkable women in a discussion about their experiences as leaders in their respective fields:

  • Dame Jacinda Ardern, former Prime Minister of New Zealand
  • The Hon Julie Bishop, ANU Chancellor and former Australian Foreign Minister
  • Rena Owen, international award winning New Zealand actress
  • Bronte Campbell, Australian dual Olympic Gold medallist and world champion swimmer

“I liked the idea of being involved in politics, but I never because I wanted to be an MP, but because I saw it as a way of changing the world for the better….I grew up never believing that my gender would stop me from being able to do what I wanted to do, and how lucky was I for that?”

– Dame Jacinda Ardern
